Audience: all vault users. Use case: the ten guiding principles are the conceptual backbone of this vault — every entry embodies at least one. Use this index to browse resources by why they matter, then follow each principle note's backlinks to the entries that embody it.
The ten principles
- Food Sovereignty — communities controlling their own food systems, from seed to table, on their own terms.
- Community Self-Sufficiency — local capacity to meet local needs with local skills, materials, and institutions.
- Modularity — systems built from swappable, scalable parts that learners can assemble, repair, and extend.
- Circular Economy — closing loops: waste streams become inputs, as in fish-waste-fed plant production.
- STEM Integration — growing systems as living laboratories connecting biology, chemistry, electronics, coding, and data.
- Open Source — open licenses, shared designs, and inspectable code that anyone can study, reuse, and improve.
- Transferable Skills — competencies learned in one project (CAD, sensing, project management) that carry into others.
- Youth Empowerment — giving young people real agency through building, growing, and leading projects.
- Rural Revitalization — technology-enabled education and production as levers for rural renewal.
- Decolonizing Education — centering local and Indigenous knowledge, languages, and priorities in learning design.

- ROOF WATER-FARM Greywater Hydroponics & Aquaponics Research Project — Berlin research project demonstrating several principles at once: circular water use, building-integrated food production, and urban self-sufficiency.
